In the years 2024-2025 The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at the European Laboratory for Particle Physics (CERN) in Geneva will undergo a major upgrade, which will enable operation with much higher intensity beams, thus increasing the potential for new discovery. Particle detectors operating on the LHC will also need to be upgraded to be able to cope with the more demanding accelerator parameters. The charged particle Tracking System of the CMS detector will be replaced with a completely new ones, which will employ state-of-the-art technologies, new materials and novel design choices: probably the most advanced and complex particle detector ever built. Several Institutes in India are joining this challenging and exciting project.
