The Eigen value and Eigen functions obtained by solving the Schrödinger’s equation is pretty involved and difficult for the undergraduate students. The difficulty can be diffused by a computational method. Of course, the accuracy may not be good compared to an analytical method, but what if determination by analytical method is not possible! Fortunately, for a quantum tunneling, the accuracy of the results is good and an approximation can suggest the eigen function fairly accurately. The computational method used for solving the second degree differential equation (Schroedinger’s equation) is done by Runge-Kutta fourth order methods using Microsoft-Excel. The animated wave functions speak volume about the characteristics of Eigen functions. The computational output is obtained using Microsoft Excel and can be done by everyone, with or without the knowledge of computer programming. Of course, animation is done using C graphics / Matlab.
